My friend Rubaina has been telling me for years to check out “Adventure Time with Finn and Jake”, an animated show. She thinks I am a lot like Finn the human from the show. Finally, I gave in this week and decided to check it out, and boy oh boy, this show is GOOD!
It is full of delightful stories, fantastic visuals, and a soul of optimism and boisterousness. It makes me want to go on adventures and see the world. It feels good.
If there’s one genre that appeals the most to me, it’s adventure. Adventurous stories have always held a special part in my heart. Be it the Adventures of Tintin comics that I am a massive fan of, or book series like The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Secret Seven, The Famous Five, The Five Find-outers and Dog (Enid Blyton deep cut) - I have consumed adventure stories ever since I was a little kid. Even the stories that I love now as a grown up - The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Three Body Problem series, The Adventures of Tintin (it persists), travelogues by Bill Bryson, are all stories of adventures that people go on. I am an adventurer at heart, and seeing Adventure Time has given me many new adventures to fall in love with.
I especially love the imaginativeness of the show. It never fails to surprise you with gags and easter eggs.
Today’s poem is a silly one inspired by this show. I hope it makes you smile!
Alright, poem starts in 3… 2… 1!
The princess awoke before sunrise, she was impulsive, friendly, and wise. Her plan was to ride up to her castle, with her favorite steed, it was no hassle. She stopped at the market for apples and grain, on the way she faced some mildly annoying rain. She rode through the forest of candies and cream, she smiled as she rode on the bridge made of dreams. The towers came close as she trotted along, humming a tune to a merry song. Drawing nearer, she heard a mighty roar, the castle staff burping post a feast galore. "BURRRRP" came the sounds, they rumbled and ripped, content from the food and the wine that they'd sipped. The princess then chuckled, as she heard, another massive burp, through the hills as it slurred. She was happy to see how her palace was gifted, delighted to see all the spirits that were lifted. For even though their manners were a bit crass, there was contentment across each class. Their tummies were full and their lives were smooth. A person who burps must know joy and truth! So she beamed with delight as she trotted inside, to her castle where all the good spirits reside!
That’s it! Thanks for reading this quirky 141st edition of Hello Universe.
Curious to know - what was the last show/movie you checked out from a friend’s recommendation and how did you like it? Tell me in the comments!
Some Fun Stuff
This is a place where I share something cool to read, something cool to listen to, and something cool to watch! The underlined words are links that you can click to visit the recommended content.
1. Check out “Visual Electric”: If you’ve been fascinated by AI Art but have not found an accessible way to start exploring it yet, then Visual Electric is for you. It is best described as a Pinterest for AI art that also lets you generate AI art in a user-friendly manner. And best of all, you can get started using it for free. That sure beats having to pay and subscribe to Midjourney or Dall E.
I like the concept, and of course the image quality isn’t up to par with Midjourney v5.2 or Dall E 3, but it is really good for a v1. Great to see new interface ideas in AI art generation, it really makes me happy to see this. Click the image below to access.
2. Listen to “Folha de Jurema - Crussen’s Creamy Cocodub”: OK look, I was going to recommend another track here, but as I was writing this section, this other track started playing on my Spotify Discover Weekly playlist, and I really dug it. So I thought, why not share just that track and make you as happy as I was to listen to such a beautiful soundscape. It is an amalgamation of multiple artist styles, and I am a fan of Nicola Cruz who is one of the artists featured on this track, so no wonder I loved it. Check it out, it is delightful, heart-touching music.
3. Watch “M Theory | Towards a Theory of Everything?” by Scienceclic": I have professed my love for Scienceclic’s physics videos before on Hello Universe, and I am spellbound by each new educational bombshell he brings to Youtube. The latest one is a thorough and descriptive explanation of the cutting edge candidate for the theory of everything - a theory that helps to reconcile Einstein’s theories of gravity with quantum physics : “The M Theory”.
Scienceclic’s magic lies in his abilities to describe some of the most complex physical phenomenon in visually clear and stunning ways. His videos make the mind numbing task of visualizing what equations really mean into an intuitive experience, fuelled by excellent writing. It really is some of the most informative and educational science content out there, I highly recommend you check it out.
That’s it for this week, see you next Tuesday!
Such a wonderful show and a very fun poem to start the day.
I loved Enid Blyton's Adventure Series as a kid -- but I doubt it would hold up now. In fact, I'd expect it to be quite cringeworthy... lol
I'm happy to report though that The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy *does* hold up -- even if it is closer now to Enid Blyton than it is to us! (Can you believe it?)
