Last year, I used to live in a different city. The apartment complex I lived in was very special to me as my best friends lived in a different tower right next to mine. For 3 months in a row, they were either at my place or, more often, I was at theirs. And late at night, walking home after a long hangout sesh, I would often pause and look at the moon for some time.
Today’s poem is in memory of those beautiful moments spent staring at the moon.
Alright, poem starts in 3… 2… 1!
Out here in the cold night's embrace, where thought runs unrestrained and free. The cosmos whispers truths I chase, it shares its mysteries with me. Beyond the ink of darkest skies, beyond the bluest deepest seas. Some wondrous truth, some secret lies, that I would dearly wish to see. A simple fact, a timeless law, whose workings I just can't yet grasp. It gives me pause, it leaves me awed, but gone when next I chance to gasp. And so I stand and contemplate, still seek this hidden truth to meet, My mind I seek to elevate, and taste the fruits of secrets sweet. Till then I watch the shining moon, bathing in its surreal glow. And thus I hope that someday soon, I'll rise. I'll see. I'll grow. I'll know.
The moon. What a captivating object.

My best moon memory was when my husband woke up at 2 am from a deep slumber, whispering, “you have to take a walk with me, it’s so beautiful outside.” It had apparently snowed heavily and with the full moon and quiet we walked through our magical woodlands. I had no idea how bright the landscape could be with the moon reflecting light off the snow. Never to be forgotten, love beauty, love romantic hearts.
I had a long distance lover. It was almost impossible for us to meet in the coming few years. The only way we could truly connect was to look at the shining moon, knowing the other person is looking at it too. The moon connected us. Now we are married for 8 years.
