I spent a lot of time today thinking about the concept of value. Today’s poem is an outcome of those thoughts.
Alright, poem starts in 3… 2… 1!
Pennies, pounds, and things to count, bonds and stocks and wild discounts. A wad of cash, a coin you toss, a fortune made, a fortune lost. A house with spires, a car so grand, a watch that says, "Look at my hand." We trade in gold, we hoard and spend, we measure wealth, but to what end? A ledger tall, a balance fine, are after all, subject to time, and once you're gone, your legacy, may outlive payment guarantees. Far within your conscious deep, there's value where numbers can't peep. A meal shared warm, a hand held tight, a friend who stays on your worst night. A belly laugh so fierce it aches, a soothing song when your heart breaks. A whispered “stay,” a loved one's grin, the light of hope before a win. So if you scratch beneath the gloss, then what is gain? And what is loss? The things we hold, or what we share? The ones who leave, or those who care? The stuff you count? Or what you feel? Have you figured out what's your deal? If not, and if you seek some clue that what does value mean for you. Then question really deep and close - What can't you buy, but means the most?

1. Get the feeling of popping bubblewrap but on your screen with koalastothemax: I don’t know how else to describe this, but basically it is like popping bubblewrap just by hovering your cursor on the circles. Pro-tip: best used on desktop, but if you’re on your phone, then you can break the circle down by swiping on it instead of tapping it.
2. Listen to “Time is the enemy” by Quantic: A soothing, melancholy track that goes well with today’s poem.
3. Watch this coverage of India’s evolving naval power: Geopolitics is a subject that pulls me in closer each day, and among many sources of value, I’ve found Caspian Report to be one which goes in depth while maintaining objectivity. This episode on the latest developments in India’s navy strategy around the crucial Malacca Strait gave me a look at my own country’s stance in a way I had never seen before. Check it out!
That’s it for this week, see you next Tuesday!
True. When my 26 year old son said that he found the right woman I asked him why he loved her. He said "she's the kindest person I have ever met." I told him, "then you know what's important." Yes, I think you Punit are very grounded to what's important in life! As I grew up I realized that there were fewer and fewer carrots to chase and that my time was one of my most valued belongings. Enjoy life, share life, simple is beautiful.
Very meaningful expression of things that we should truly value, such as, loving children, good friends; unconditional love of our pets; and the beautiful world our Creator provided for us. We were not born to focus all our energy on acquiring material things or gaining fame. We are here to develop our talents, skills, knowledge and wisdom. . We take nothing else, when we depart on our continual journey through time.
