Last week, I shared that I’m in the middle of my recovery from COVID-19.

The situation persists into this week as well. Thankfully, I was fully vaccinated, and that seems to have resulted in much milder symptoms and effects of the virus on my body, and I feel extremely fortunate and grateful that this is the case.

However, there is one thing that this infection has taken away from me, that I really miss - my sense of smell. I have lost my sense of taste too, but I’m one of those weirdos who rank smell higher than taste.

So, today, I am using my creative energy to process this loss. And thus, today’s poem is little more than a one man self-pity-party. 😬

Thanks for reading Hello Universe! Subscribe for free to read a fun poem every week!

Poem starts in 3… 2… 1!

It used to be, my sense of smell, was very very strong.

I sniffed out stuff, that no one could, from distances so long.

People used to say, my nose could rival any dog’s.

But now it feels my nose is full of blocks and bogs and cogs.

This virus snatched the only superpower that I had.

It feels so weird, and rough, and tough. It sucks! I feel so sad!

Now every second, minute, hour, this is all I think.

I just want to smell something, dude, even if it stinks!

That’s it!

Thanks for checking out edition no. 34 of Hello Universe! Thanks a lot for last week’s best wishes over email, whatsapp and comments for my recovery! I should be fully recovered by the time you receive next week’s edition. 😊

Some fun stuff:

This is a place where I share something cool to do, something cool to listen to, and something cool to watch! The underlined words are links that you can click to visit the recommended content.

  1. Check out Timeline of the Human Condition: A literal timeline of the Universe since the Big Bang. FASCINATING.

  2. Listen to Tethers by Tipper: This song is what would happen if you passed a jazz melody through a psychedelic filter. Made of amazingly clean instrument samples, nature sounds, and a snappy drum kit, this track is an absolute pleasure to listen to. I love it so much in fact, that I predict it will emerge as my highest-listened-to track in 2021. MUST LISTEN TO!

  3. Watch this funny nature documentary about hummingbirds: This guy is best described as Sir David Attenborough but if he sounded like Morgan Freeman who had the sense of humor of a 13 year old boy. WATCH NOW!

I would love it if YOU shared some fun stuff that you read/ listen to/ watch across the internet, down in the comments.

The illustrations in this issue have been made using icons from Flaticon, by the creators "Freepik", "Darius Dan", "Smashicons", "AomAm", and "ultimatearm".

See you next week!
