My Mentor

Last week, I had the opportunity to meet my manager from my previous job. We worked closely together for 4 years, and he has been instrumental in shaping me as a person and a professional. Back in the day when I wrote 100 poems in 100 days, he regularly read them daily and gave me his kind feedback. Thus, even my habit of writing poetry is influenced by him.

This time, we met for the first time after I moved to my new job and new city. And as always, it was a delightful conversation that sparked many new ideas.

And thus, today’s poem is dedicated to my mentor, as a thank you for his guidance and support over the years.

He is a gentle guiding ray.
He shows the path, and shows the way.
He listens and puts me at ease.
Success is what he helps me seize.

He trusts me and he helps me grow.
He helps me change the status quo.
He challenges me, makes me think.
With him, I know that I won't sink.

We don't meet daily anymore.
Our lives are now on different shores.
Yet if our paths somehow do cross.
His words, they light up all my thoughts.

His presence brings me gratitude,
I'm thankful that I know this dude!
A man of kind and worthy deeds.
My mentor - he's a man who leads.
